Imaging sensors are expected to operate in a number of diverse, challenging and hostile environments, in which inevitable transmission errors corrupt the transmitted imagery. The large operational ranges, legacy technology and design constraints associated with missiles, also have implications in terms of small available bandwidths.

RIDLE can be employed to enhance the transmission of imagery in any wireless transmission network, and is an integral and critical component, as no matter how much the network is made resilient, the weak link, before RIDLE, was always the image codec in the middle.
